This trip will explore the area of the proposed Mule Park Important Bird Area. The Mule Park IBA consists of three units of aspen habitat stretching across Mesa, Delta and Gunnison counties north of Paonia. It likely contains a quarter to half of Colorado’s Purple Martins. If coming from the south, we’ll meet at the northeast corner of the Gold's Gym parking lot in Montrose (the corner of Hillcrest Dr. and Highway 50) at 7:30 AM to get started and caravan up to Paonia where we’ll meet up with other participants at Paonia River Park at 8:45 AM. We’ll head up Stevens Gulch Road to bird around Hubbard Park and Mule Park and then come down CR 265 to Highway 133 north of Paonia State Park. We should be back in Paonia by mid-afternoon and Montrose by late afternoon. The trip will be led by Don Marsh, who can be contacted at (209) 256-5744 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
